stitchesThe FDA has cleared the first suture ever made by recombinant DNA technology. The chemicals used to create the TephaFLEX Absorbable Suture is produced by genetically engineered bacteria. A product warning:

The device is contraindicated in patients allergic to the cells or the growth media used to produce the absorbable polymeric material.

Question: How would patients know in advance whether they were allergic or not?
