In case you are not aware of what kind of parenting style you have, Parenting.com offers a new Web application that can explain it to you in big, fancy words. The application, designed by a bunch of PhD types with Signal Patterns, offers “new insight into the rich complexities of parenting approaches far beyond relaxed/strict descriptions and is the first such test to shed light on potential parenting conflicts among couples.”
The application features an assessment questionnaire to identify what Signal calls your hidden parenting traits. You can also take the test “for your partner” so you can discover differences in your parenting styles, then compare the two results. The application then gives “initial advise on how to address these inevitable differences in a positive way.”

Thanks that was fun, it does state I’m fair with my discipline. Phew! Made me nervous. hehe. No, I’m pretty laid back and know it, sometimes the kids know it too much.
Love your blog but this survey is absurd. Every situation is different and the amount of freedom that I give my children differs depending on the decision. This survey is looking for a one parenting style fits all approach, which is quite idiotic.
You know, I have to agree with you on that one. The test is kind of lame. Signal Patterns, which produced the quiz, also has a general personality test on its Web site http://www.signalpatterns.com/ that had the same issue – as each situation requires a different response. But the cool thing is that when you finish that test, it creates a personalized “badge” of your top personality traits. So if you have 15 minutes to burn, try that.
And thanks!
