TGIF’s Right Portion, Right Price Selections

So, it seems like for a long time that portions at restaurants have gotten bigger and bigger – as have Americans (Sigh). Yes, we live in a country where the average restaurant meals runs you about 2000 calories – roughly the amount that any person would need on a given DAY.
I guess TGI Friday’s listened, and they have developed a “Right Portion, Right Price” menu- featuring smaller size meals that will cost you around $7-9. Not bad considering I usually pay for a full meal, then have to leave more than half of it.
However, I looked on the website for pictures of the meals listed. Um, they’re really not that small. Yes, they’re on a “standard” dinner plate, but they’re piled high and they don’t leave any room around the edge.
So, are they really smaller? Can I see the calorie information, perhaps? Not surprisingly, it’s listed nowhere on their site – which is really a disservice considering how often people (including me) eat out these days.
Bottom line, the dinners are probably *somewhat* smaller. Has anyone tried one? Let me know!

I thought this was a great idea, but then read that similar efforts have failed in other restaurants. I would definitely try the smaller (but still way too big) portions.

Yes, I think when it comes down to it, folks expect the larger portions and that has created a bigger appetite in Americans overall. We may not need it, but we still eat it! However, I hope this effort doesn’t fail.
