Thank You For Being A Friend, Estelle

Picture it: West Virginia, July 22, 2008. It was a particularly hot and humid summer day, when a dark-haired freelance writer decided to take a break from researching the real estate market in Texas and procrastinate by surfing the Web focus her attention instead on the news. Much to her dismay, she found out her best friend died.
That dark-haired freelance writer was me, and that best friend was Estelle Getty.
(OK, she wasn’t really my best friend, but she and the other four Golden Girls may as well have been.)
As most of you probably know by now, Estelle Getty (famous for her award-winning role as Sophia Petrillo, the feisty Sicilian mother hen on “The Golden Girls” and had been battling advanced dementia, specifically Lewy Body Dementia) passed away this week.
Several of our Health & Wellness Channel bloggers have written about Getty’s passing (off the top of my head, I know both Alzheimer’s Notes and Lively Women have posted tributes), and Lifetime will be airing a “Golden Girls Marathon” Friday, July 24, 2008 from noon until 5 p.m., ET.
If you would like to know more about Lewy Body Dementia, visit the Lewy Body Dementia Association online.

Hi Alicia,
It’s always when the stars of the screen pass over that we often reflect much deeper than the norm.
Estelle brought laughter to many many people all across the world and that, is truly noteworthy.
Thanks for the post,
