Thankful for Teens
As you know, we’ve had somewhat of a trying year with our teens. At the very least, they’ve been a handful. Between the teen attitude, teaching them to drive, trying to get them to do their dang homework, battling over chores and everything else, I’m worn out.
But then here we are on Thanksgiving Day (at least here in the U.S.) and I’m reminded about all of the things I’m thankful for with these teens.
I’m thankful for their love. We have our arguments (usually about homework with the eldest and chores with the younger one), but I get unconditional love from my teens. They are really good teens who are very respectful and polite. I love hanging out with them. And I love spontaneous hugs and “I love you” they give.
I’m thankful for the laughs. My teens are down right funny. Sarcastic. But funny. They tell me some of the corniest jokes that literally have me laughing out loud. Some of the best moments are when we are in the car cracking jokes and just making each other laugh. With my busy life I sometimes forget the importance of laughter so it’s good of the teens to remind me.
I’m thankful for learning. It’s been quite a while since I had a U.S. History or Algebra class, but it’s all coming back to me as I help the teens with their homework. I’m a little rusty when it comes to all these subjects the teens are taking, but I love getting in to discussions with them and learning more.
I’m thankful for the help. My oldest does his chores usually without any pushing from us. Our younger teen grumbles, but he does them anyway. If it wasn’t for their help our house would be a complete disaster every day. Between my work, school and blogging I leave little time for housework so I really appreciate all the effort the boys do to keep this place clean.
I’m thankful for their babysitting services. We pay the teens to babysit the younger kids so they love to babysit. They are practically kicking us out of the house on the weekends. And we love having cheap babysitters right in our house. My husband and I can go out for date nights and we don’t even have to drive the sitter home afterwards.
What is about your teens that you’re thankful for?
