Thanksgiving countdown – keep people out of your kitchen

If you’re pretty sure that you’re going to have too many cooks in the kitchen this Thanksgiving, here’s how to deal.

Make the kitchen off limits to kids. If kids want to help, set up a small table in another room, and let them at it.

Tell everyone the wrong time to arrive. Here’s the thing; if you tell people to come at 1pm, they’ll show up at 11:30 raring to help. Adjust your timing. If dinner is at 3pm, make sure that all your major prep is done by 1pm so that you can be out of the kitchen when everyone else shows up. By 1pm, you should basically have items cooking, OR ready to pop into the oven.

Tell people to prep and cook at home. They can bring dishes in a heated tray, or heat it at your house, but major prep, is unnecessary.

Put drinks and snacks in another room. People will mill into your kitchen looking for glasses, drinks, and starters – so, put them elsewhere.
