The Benefits of Wearing Sunglasses

When I was younger, I thought that if I wore a pair of sunglasses, people wouldn’t recognize me. This may explain why I have a somewhat largish collection of sunglasses. I like living incognito….and even now, I am a little disappointed when people recognize me when I have my “sunnies” on.

Overtime, I have come to realize that there are other benefits for wearing sunglasses (other than anonymity). Sunglasses can help with a myriad of problems. There are a few uses, that can help with someone who suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, not to mention help people who are just plain old tired.

  • Protects from glare – which will improve visual clarity
  • Reduces exposure to ultraviolet radiation – this will prevent eye problems such as cataracts and eye cancers
  • Hides emotional response. Such as tearing up (which is something that happens to me, when I am really tired) or the very rude habit of rolling one’s eyes (which is a habit that I am trying to break)
  • Helps cope with light sensitivity
  • Tinted lenses will help if you work with a computer for long periods of time. It can help increase the contrast from the computer screen

If you live or work near large bodies of water, you may want to consider wearing polarized lenses. These lenses best reduce the glare that is reflected off of the water, and will help you see underneath the surface – just in case you decide to do some spear fishing or other such activity.

If you are able to work, and spend a lot of time in an office. I do recommend wearing some colored lens sunglasses. I have a few pair that I have on rotation. I work in an office that has a lot of different kinds of lighting. It’s very hard on my eyes. So in order to prevent a headache or eyestrain I will don a pair of glasses. People will often make a remark about my accessory of choice…but I can handle some innocent teasing, if they will prevent an afternoon of headaches and tiredness.

Another benefit is that they help hide your identity/shock/delight while shopping at Womyn’s Ware…
    (sorry, couldn’t resist! ;)

Sylvia, when you come to Vancouver – we will go shopping. I am not going into that store by myself.

Well, you can always order it online. For the price of a single massage you’ll get years worth of on-demand muscle relief. My cat likes it too. What have you got to lose?

You know something….I am not sure what it is that is stopping me from going in there. Its a store that just kind of freaks me out.

I was in that area of town the other day with a friend of mine, and we drove past that store, and I just kept staring at it.

I told him, about how you keep suggesting that I go….he agrees with you, actually.

I just can’t go in there by myself.

Hey, no worries. I certainly didn’t go into one of those stores myself the first time. I just want you to experience this wonderful massager! It’s the best one on the market and it will make your muscles feel like new (well, almost!).

Did I mention it’s good for relaxation before bed? I don’t know about you but my legs can get restless, but a few minutes with my Wahl and they settle down very nicely. Marvellous invention.

One of these days, I will get myself into that store. I just need to talk myself up a whole lot first.

Going under the guise of research for this blog, will make it a lot easier for me. I am just not ready to go alone….I am going to need to convince someone to go with me.
