The boy who cried sick

For weeks my five year old, AJ has been complaining that he is sick and can’t go to school, can’t pick up his shoes, can’t put his toys away. In fact, he has gone back to sleep several times this week before school and it worried me. But, when it comes to going to the playground or playing with those toys he feels just fine.

His laundry list of symptoms did have me curious though…headache, throat, tummy, etc. He often felt feverish as well so I took him to the pediatrician Friday just to be safe. He checked out just fine, had grown a few centimeters and gained a pound or two, and chatted up the doctor like she had NEVER seen him do.

He told her all about the circus we went to on Thursday, his Halloween costume, and the pumpkin farm. She had never heard him talk so much in ALL of our visits.

She, of course, was astounded by his improvement.

So, although the visit was not necessarily needed, our pediatrician did get a very good assessment of him on a relatively good day. And, we now have a way to redirect him when he tells us he is feeling sick…
