6DAA5321-F6B7-4762-9CD0-2A407C33681D.jpgI’m going to tell you right now that I gave my Tree Hugging friend Jennifer holy heck about the new “green” products for feminine hygiene in her post “Options Besides Disposable Maxi Pads & Tampons”.

Mainly because I tried that Instead Cup in the 90s and it was not a pretty sight. “Use this Instead of cleanliness and hygiene.” B.J. Morris, an Amazon review had an experience with Instead that mirrored my own, I do believe it’s possible to use the Instead cup without making a mess, I never achieved it. I had to take a washcloth with me to the bathroom to avoid looking like I’d just violently murdered someone. . . So, I did a bit of research and discovered Diva cups. And, WOW! Since they’re shaped differently than the Instead, they are easier to use, plus I can remove mine without reenacting the Boston Massacre.

I didn’t see how the new Diva Cup could be that much better.

But, I keep thinking about it.

I would not have to buy tampons ever again because Diva Cups are reusable.

Yeah, that’s right. Ever.

You just dump it out, wash it and put it back in.

I already abandoned my deodorant this year in favor of a rock crystal and I’m loving that. What could be bad about a lifetime expenditure of $5? Nothing.

I read the reviews on Amazon and they are all pretty positive.

I’ll be menopausal in 10-20 years - could it be possible not to ever have to buy another tampon or pad?

Really?

OK Jennifer, of Tree Hugging Family. I’m sorry. I’m going to try the Diva Cup.

You are so funny. But in a totally adorable way :)

I think that once you try it you should write a review; because then we can all hear if it works or if it’s a bloody mess. I hope it does work for you because never having to buy fem hy products again is fly. Keep me posted.

Oh man, sounds like we had similar experiences with Instead! I laughed at what the Amazon reviewer you quoted said about it. Um, yeah, I was right there with her on that one. However, I’ve heard wonderful things about the Diva Cup. I’ll be interested to read your take on it and how it works for you. Maybe I’ll take the plunge…

plunge. . . is that a tasteless pun? LOL.

I think everyone should use menstrual cups!!! I am pretty sure I had the same issue as many ladies out there- tampons and pads were seriously irritating the heck out of me… the chemicals, the discomfort… blech! I finally had to say “enough!”. I also recently switched over to the silicone, reusable alternative called The Diva Cup (I love the name!) and could not be happier! The silicone is latex-free, and, apparently, it’s the same kind used in medical tubing. My body is thanking me, and so is my pocketbook; no more monthly shopping… yay! And, of course, it feels good to use such an environmentally-friendly product and know that I am reducing my eco-footprint in a way that I never thought was possible. I bought mine at whole foods, but you can check out their great website, too: (www.divacup.com). Viva la Diva!
