The evolution of birthday parties

My oldest turned six last week but we only had a chance to have her party yesterday, a full week later. She didn’t mind since it spread out the celebrations. She got some gifts that she loved – lots of Hannah Montana stuff!

What’s fun about our parties is that we have a circle of friends who all had babies at the same time, so it’s a combination kids’ party and gathering for the parents at the same time.

As fun as it is, though, I’m not sure how much longer we can do it the way we have been. I know that next year she’s going to want to invite more of her school friends and it will require some changes. I may have to have a kids-only party and think about having our friends over in the later evening for coffee and cake.

I’m not sure how to change the party aura around here but I know the status quo won’t work forever.

What do you for your kids’ parties?
