Happy Villages

The other evening my daughter Beth and I attended a talk and demonstration by fabric artist Karen Eckmeier and learned about her Happy Villages and Accidental Landscapes. I haven’t had time to try any of these, but Beth has been experimenting and produced a fascinating landscape that she may transform into a tote bag.
I like Karen’s method of quilting, one aspect building upon another. If you’re a planner type of personality, you can plot your village. However, if you like to design as you go, Karen’s methods are just for you.
I like the idea, especially for a busy person, of being able to adjust my layout as it “suits my fancy” and letting it flow with my mood or whatever materials I have on hand. It allows for so much creativity.
We weren’t able to fit Karen’s workshop (held the following day) into our schedule, but she inspired us to try some new techniques and designs.
