The Fish Highway

fish highway

A literal high way! Check out this fish tank “accessory” made of acrylic. The highway connects two fish tanks together across a room. More photos can be found here and a FAQ is also available.

An instruction guide can be purchased from the site for $9.95. What a fun project!

This is the most awesome thing ever. When we get some tanks up and running, you bet I will try this. I’ll be sure to send pictures!

Oh my gosh! I’ve wanted to build one of those for so long! I wish I wasn’t poor I could afford the plexiglass! There’s still other things on my agenda to build though that I haven’t noticed anyone else doing yet… So I suppose I’ll be ok. I’m still going to build one of those “fish highways” too… I was just going to call it a tank connector, and its supposed to be round instead of square :o Square looks good though!

We’re getting a pet fish tomorrow (YIKES) and I came looking for fish posts — this is likely a little much for what will probably be a goldfish but cool.

JENNIFER IS GETTING A PET! Mwahahahaha! I’ll do some fish posts for you tomorrow >:D

What kind of fish are you getting?

  5. Heather says:

Alicia – you better send pictures! That would be awesome.

Rader – when you get to it make sure you send pictures too!

I DON’T KNOW!!! What kind of emergency help can you offer. The pet store people seemed very not useful. What about a Beta? Is that right, “Beta” Bete? Hmmm yes please do offer any suggestions. I am terrified of pet dealings. I tried to get him to go with sea monkeys but noooo.

  7. Heather says:

Betas are excellent first-time fish! Only get one per containment unit, of course :D

Speaking of beta homes, try and get a normal sized goldfish bowl instead of the teeny tiny little containers they market for betas, those things are miserable.

The pet store should be able to help you with an initial set-up: you’ll want a small net to catch the fish for when you clean the bowl, dechlorinating solution, etc.

Betas are AWESOME, hardy fish to start out with. Personally, I have always been disappointed with goldfish (most fishy people I know think they are “trash” fish and only ruin your tank, so if you get a gold fish DO NOT GET ANY OTHER FISH to put in the tank with them).

I second Heather’s suggestion to get a bigger bowl for them. They don’t need a filtration system like other fish, so they are portable and easy to set up.

Good luck with your new friend!!

Thanks Heather and Alicia! We went with the Beta. I was hoping Cedar may have forgot but this morning he wakes up and first thing asks me if I want to hear a song, I say yes, and he sings, “I’m getting a fish, my own little fish…” it went on for a while.

I guess that males are flashy and females are not — according to the pet store guy. Cedar oddly wanted a tiny female? I asked him a lot if he was sure and he said, “Can’t you tell how cute she is.” So we got a plain Jane who is kind of cute. We did get a filter deal because it was on sale and Cedar wanted to get her a castle home. So we have this kind of big tank for this one tiny girl.

He watched her all day and was all excited when she went through her castle. Guess what he named her… Fishy! He said, “Fishy is the most perfect name for the best fish ever.” Clearly he is smitten.

I will send a picture soon and thanks for the advice — Beta was a good choice I think. Not so good as a chia pet but not too bad.
