The I’m Tired Quote of the Day

I talk a lot about being active in your recovery. I really feel that if you are only working the medication game, there isn’t a whole lot of hope in getting better. Recovery encompasses all areas – not just the physical one. Change has to be made in every area of your life. You can’t just believe in a miracle pill. It just doesn’t work that way.
Over the last couple of days, I have had a few conversations about what having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is like, and what I do to get past the sickness. What I do, is not let it get to me. What I do, is work harder than ever to get through the bad times. What I do, is choose to not listen to people who aren’t supportive, and have judgmental voices.
I came across a quote by Shel Silverstein today (the topic is laziness), and it just reaffirmed why I work so hard. It’s not about appearances at all. I really don’t care, if people believe if I am sick or not. People are going to believe what they want to believe- and to tell the truth, I really don’t think of myself as sick. I work so hard at fighting CFS because I just couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t.
Here is the quote from the incomparable Shel Silverstein (taken from Aardvark magazine, 1963)
I believe that if you don’t want to do anything, then sit there and don’t do it, but don’t expect people to hand you a corn beef sandwich and wash your socks for you and unzip your fly for you.

I so agree with you positive attitude toward this aliment. I have been off work for a 9 months, making very slow progress but determined to beat this thing. The challenge of having invisible issues it is hard for people to understand. I am now at a crossroad of being forced to decide to begin to return to work ( not even close to being well enough) or releasing my claim. I know the insurance companies job is to get me off the books , my job is to listen to my body not my pocket book. Being positively focused is what is giving me strength to be true to myself but don’t count or expect a lot of support along the way.
Lynn, you have a great attitude! A positive outlook is going to make all the difference. It will give you the edge in beating this thing
Some really great people hang out at this blog….and we are all about positive support. Especially when someone is trying so hard
Good luck with making the decision in going back to work. It’s not an easy one to make. Perhaps you can come up with a part time solution??? That may help with the transition.
