The Massive Treehouse

Sometimes homes slip right under my radar. Sometimes they simply are a little older so I just missed them while I was doing other, non-home related things in my life.
In any case I recently came across a really nice treehouse; maybe one of the bigger (non-fantasy) tree homes I’ve seen. Built by Peter Lewis, there is an accompanying blog; Treehouse Chronicles and book Treehouse Chronicles: One Man’s Dream of Life Aloft.
This treehouse was a massive undertaking as you can see:

The above is the completed home. Lewis intended this treehouse to be his office — I’m unclear if that’s what it’s actually used for. The blog is a little scattered but still a great read for treehouse fans. There are slide shows to watch with photos of the building process; scary posts about the dangers of autumn and winter winds, and more.
Check out this beautiful winter shot:

And an interior view (LOVE the chess table). I don’t even play.

This treehouse even has some sort of drawbridge. This house looks impossible to build so to find out the detail behind the process you can pick up the book. It also would make a great holiday gift for an offbeat treehouse fan. Learn more about this home at Treehouse Chronicles.
What do you think? Would this make a great new office? I say possibly, but not in those crazy winds. Yikes.

Hi Jennifer,
I’m the builder of the treehouse and the author of the book. Thanks for the plug. That you find my blog a little scattered just confirms what my wife has been telling me for 25 years.
By the way, the book, Treehouse Chronicles, has won nine national book awards.
Thanks again for finding me in cyberspace.

Funny! Scattered fits in at Offbeat Homes, and I’m not really one to talk so… anyhow, thank you for building a cool tree home. I’ve had a few shown here in the past and they’re always popular. People just have a love affair with them but don’t seem to want to build their own so the people who do build are impressive.
Thanks for stopping by
Hey,
That looks like a great place for coffee bean Spitting Monkeys.
Marc, Marye’s Marc! Or is this Marye being sneaky? If it is you Marc welcome to Offbeat Homes and also do you know that you talk just like Marye. If it’s you Marye than welcome back as always.
That, my friend was Marc..After being together for 28 years we do talk alike..you would think that I would have gotten taller too but..no.
I have been telling him about the blog and the architect in him could stay away no longer…
Ha! Too cool. I love how you sound so much alike that I thought it was you being sneaky. The two of you rock!
I am totally in love with treehouses, and with this one in particular! Awesome
