The Middle School Physical

school physicalToday my son had his physical for Middle School – you know the one where you get the shot that keeps you from getting “cooties” ? I will say that this was a physical of many firsts.

  • My son hit the 5′0″ mark – at age 11.
  • He didn’t want me in the exam room while he sat there in his skivvies.
  • He had to be shown what to do with the lovely paper gown they left for him and ended up not using.
  • He wouldn’t let me in the room during the exam either.

After the exam was done and he was respectable again, I did get the pleasure of keeping him company for his two shots – TDAP and the Meningitis vaccine. We kept referring to these as his “cooties” shots and Mr. Bashful himself was not really amused. You know, girls are just so not cool in his eyes yet.

And guess what I just realized? You know that checklist I wrote the other day? The one where I reminded myself to get the note for my daughter’s school about her lactose intolerance? Yep, I forgot to ask for it! I will have to call the office and have them mail it to me, because it is my goal not to step foot into a doctor’s office in August after the July we have had!

I taught middle school…its very common for boys not to want their mama’s around. Get used to it. He’ll come around…and then you won’t be able to get him to put his pants on over his boxers when he walks around the house. :)

Pickel – good point! I’ll enjoy this stage while it lasts.

It has been quite a month. I hope you have a calmer summer starting now.
