Craft Critique, a really helpful site, has posted a test of 14 different black inks, all hand-tested by Dana Vitek. Good on you, Dana! You can see the results of Dana’s attempts to smear the various inks at their site.

While you’re there, I’d recommend searching to see if any of those materials or tools that you’ve been thinking about picking up are reviewed there. Craft Critique tags itself as “unsolicited opinions on the subject of craft”, but I’d have to say that after reading several of their reviews, I’m perfectly happy to solicite their opinions whenever and wherever!
