The Naked Roommate

If you have a child going off to college this fall or sometime in the upcoming years, you (and your child) need to read the latest book by Harlan Cohen called The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College.

When I went away to college and left my predictable suburban lifestyle, I was totally unprepared for what I would experience in the private college dorms of the University of Texas. I had a roommate who rarely washed her clothes, but always spent hours on her makeup, a roommate who never left the suite except to go to class, and one I became great friends with.

Then there was the weekend that my roommate’s twin sister showed up and magically stuff in our room disappeared (including my wallet). And, I was totally unprepared for the parties, having to manage my own daily schedule and get passing grades at the same time.

The Naked Roommate would have been a really good book for me to have had! The book is 14 jam-packed chapters of tips, advice, reality and laughter. The chapters include topics like roommates, friends, getting involved, the Greek life, academics, dating, sex, drinking, drugs, and life skills like money management and the dreaded laundry.

The topics are laid out in a very easy to read manner – they start with a tip, followed by a story, and a bottom line summary finishes it up. It is not only a quick read, but one you will want to refer back to depending on the situation.

If you have a high school grad in your life this spring, I highly recommend this book – it would make a great graduation gift!!
