The NAMI Support Group Meeting Is Upon Me

Good Monday morning, folks!
It’s definitely going to be a busy day for me. Aside from my regular writing and editing work, today is the first support group meeting for our county’s National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) affiliate group. This means I need to spruce up the website, print and cut more business cards, and design/print some new brochures. The old brochures (from when the group was active a few years ago) actually aren’t that bad, but I need to slim down and clean up the copy as well as update the contact and website information.
I found out this weekend that several mental health professionals from our community mental health care center are going to be present. Eek! Don’t get me wrong – this is definitely a good thing. The more people we get to support us, the better. But…I can’t help but be nervous.
I don’t expect a huge turn out at the support group meeting. I was told it takes a bit to get these things up and going (especially getting the word out). I just hope it’s not a complete flop. Of course, if it is, I’ll still be able to talk with the big wigs about the direction of our NAMI affiliation, how they can help (if they’re willing, and I’m 100% sure they are), and what I can do to make sure this thing succeeds.
I’m determined to make our NAMI support group a success – even if it’s not an immediate one. At this point, our county has no other support groups aside from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
Our area’s mental health patients need – and deserve – this support group.
Well, which me luck! Hopefully I’ll be able to update tonight and let you all know how it went. If not, expect highlights in the morning!
