The Northern California Pacific coast is one of the most rugged and picturesque in the world.

This photo was taken near Bodega Bay, at the Point Reyes National Seashore, about 45 miles north of San Francisco.

During the winter months (January to March), people gather on this point to watch migrating Gray Whales that can easily be seen from the shoreline.

The park is located off of California Highway 1, that follows much of California’s Pacific coast.  The highway is called different things, depending on the area you are in, Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in the south, the Cabrillo Highway and where it passes the Point Reyes, the Shoreline Highway.
