The Oldest Dog in the World

Yesterday I wrote about Gibson, the world’s tallest dog who recently passed away from cancer. Today I thought I’d look up who the oldest dog in the world is, and found Max.

At 26 years old (he just celebrated his most recent birthday this Sunday), it’s hard to dispute the fact that Max is old!
According to the above article, his owner Janelle DeRouen of Louisiana recently read an article about a 21-year-old dog being touted as the world’s oldest and decided she needed to contact Guinness to “set the record straight.” I can’t say that I blame her!
DeRouen said Max, a terrier mix, was born in 1983 and has had very few health problems along the way. She says he remains active and aside from a bit of arthritis and cataracts he’s in great shape. She doesn’t know what the secret is to his longevity and says she fed him Puppy Chow as a puppy and Kibbles ‘N’ Bits for the last 15 years.
Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog older than about 16 or so, and the oldest any of mine have been is one of our current pups, Honey, who’s about 11 or so.
How old was the oldest dog you’ve ever known?
