The “Sandwich” generation

November 19, 2007 by Elizabeth

My father is apparently trying to relieve me of my Sandwich Generation status.

Seems he got a plate full of small sandwiches to take home from a reception at work.

He’s been enjoying them for several days, right from their little plate on the kitchen counter.

Please note that I didn’t say refrigerator anywhere in that previous description.

Oh, Elizabeth..I do understand! My mom and dad passed away over 5 years ago but I am an only child and I had many times of that frustration..I finally brought my mom to live with us for the last 6 months..and that had it’s own frustrations.

Is that a Dad thing? My Dad will eat leftover long after they are safe for consumption. We cleaned his refrigerator out recently and it was rather frightening the amount of stuff that he still contends was edible.

My mother in law will leave food on the table over night or a couple of nights, then bring it to me for my family to “enjoy”. She always says “If you don’t want it, throw it in the garbage. I just can’t throw out good food.” It stopped being good food after a few hours.

I so happy to read that I am not the only one who has a garbage disposal for a father. My dad will eat anything new, old, even really old. I now have a fear of expired food. I read labels on anything in my parents fridge, just in case.
