The Serenity Prayer

When your patience is being tested at home, there’s a prayer that has helped a friend of mine become calmer. She usually prays it when a sibling is being impossible, or when she needs guidance in making a decision. It’s called “The Serenity Prayer.”
“God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.”
It’s a great way to claim your calm. The household can get quite unnerving sometimes, and one needs to set some quiet time to meditate to rid oneself of negative vibes and to just refocus. For some it may be taking a walk. For others, it could be having a cup of coffee. One friend likes taking a long shower — she comes out refreshed physically and emotionally. And then there’s my friend who says this prayer over and over, like a personal mantra, and swears it does help her become calmer and more enlightened.
It may not work for everyone, but it’s worth giving a try, isn’t it? Prayer has been known to help heal people, whether the problem is small or huge. If it’s prayer that works for you in giving you back your calm, perhaps this Serenity prayer can also center you, and bring you that peace you need when the household gets a bit too much to handle.
