Scary to think that the national debt grows every second of every day. This sign located in New York’s Times Square is a reminder to all who see it. The amount is now close to $10 trillion.
The sign has been counting up the national debt for close to 20 years, when it was first erected in 1989. The sign was an effort to point out the consequences of Regan-era Reaganomics, when the debt was $2.7 trillion.
When the nation’s debt reaches $10 trillion, (it has a few times) the dollar sign is replaced with the number “1”.

See you later national debt! I’ll send you a postcard from SPACE MOUNTAIN!!!
Actually, including the future promises (things we will have to pay) to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, our national debt is closer to $53 trillion, not $9 trillion. This country is in big trouble and neither the dems nor the reps are willing to admit that the only way out is to raise taxes AND cut spending drastically.

JR – you are so correct, but then…what’s $40 trillion between friends?
