Theraplay for Attachment in Adoption
Theraplay is a therapeutic approach to attachment that uses play therapy to help parents and children build better relationships. It was developed in 1967 by Ann M. Jernberg in Chicago while she was the Director of Psychological Services for the new Chicago Head Start program.
At the time there were very few programs that she liked and wanted to use so she created a model based on healthy parent-infant attachment and interaction. It was based on Austin Des Lauriers and Viola Brody’s work.
If you live in the Chicago area the main headquarters is still in Chicago.
