While there are some advantages to homeschooling, there are also questions you must ask your self before taking on the task. Most importantly is can you handle high school level education for your child. Can you teach Chemistry? Physics? Pre-calculus? Calculus (some students will be at this level)? Can you teach Shakespeare? It is important that some basics are covered in home school as these will be expected knowledge for college and the real world.

Frankly while most people could handle elementary and middle school level instruction, a minority of people are equipped to handle instruction in High school level science (chemistry, physics) and subjects whether it is calculus or english. Which will make the difference if your child will be pursuing a college degree whether it is engineering or english.

Steve, thanks for the shout-out.

Today was an important day in our young homeschooling life... We decided to have our daughter stay in the public school one more year for first grade.

Uh-oh, I feel a blog post coming on...

I know the feeling, Steve.

We were fortunate to find an amazing charter school, otherwise we would be home schooling.

We have several friends who do, and it's hard, but worth it. They also are involved with co-ops, for language and music classes for example.

I also know a of a kid who was home schooled, but pitched for his local high school baseball team. There's a lot of options these days.
