Now, chalk up another one for tea. In fact, give tea another bonus point for being considered as even healthier than water!

“Drinking tea is actually better for you than drinking water. Water is essentially replacing fluid. Tea replaces fluids and contains antioxidants so its got two things going for it.”

A review of the scientific evidences on the beneficial and harmful effects of black tea revealed that

  • There is clear evidence that at least 3 cups of tea a day may reduce risks of coronary heart disease. This effect is attributed to the antioxidant action of tea polyphenols.
  • There is moderate evidence suggestive of a positive effect of black tea consumption on bone mineral density.
  • There is little evidence indicating that the fluoride in tea may protect against caries.
  • A moderate caffeine intake from tea appeared to improve mental performance.
  • There is no clear definitive data on the effect of tea on cancer
    • So go on, drink your tea. Don’t worry, contrary to popular belief, experts say the caffeine level in tea (even a strongly brewed cup) is not high enough to cause dehydration. And though tea might interfere with iron absorption, only those who are anaemic are at risk, and should therefore avoid tea during mealtimes.

I’m with you on the beneficial aspects of tea! I drink several cups of Japanese green tea (both hot and cold) every single day and can’t imagine going without anymore. Tea consumption has definitely replaced water consumption for me!

I can’t say I’m a fan of tea. As I’ve mentioned in a previous entry, I’m a coffee junkie. Tea is more of a comfort drink for me. My favorite’s the African rooiboos(rotbusch/red bush); they say it’s caffeine free!

coffee perks me up and tea relexes my nerves. but i can never forget water (i try to drink at least eight glasses a day), on hot days like in here, water is after all still the best thirst quencher. ;-)
