Three Steps to Happiness

I’m always interested in the stories that tell us how to be happy. For some reason, it actually makes me feel good to see when I’m “following” the advice. I think happiness is available for all of us, regardless of our level of wealth or social background. Everyone has a different idea about happiness.

One source says there are three keys to being happy. The first one on the list is to “have a healthy outlet.” I second this advice. When I was growing up in an alcoholic household, I funneled all my emotions into poetry. It helped. Now, my poetry helps other people who are in the same situation I was. (And added benefit.)

The second piece of advice is to not “take yourself too seriously.” Things happen, you have to be able to laugh about it. Third piece of advice? “Share the love.” Life is better with supportive friends and family to share it with! In my opinion, if people aren’t supportive, you need to move on. If there are people who revel in your mistakes or misery, get away from them. But if they love you and worry about you and pray for you? Hang on to them! Take time to grow those relationships because it makes for a happy and healthy life.
