When Random Quilting Thoughts Flit Through Your Mind

  • As I think about quilting, thoughts and impressions come to mind.  Some of these are nostalgic, others about new inspirations. After being around quilters and quilting for more than 50 years, I’ve seen many trends evolve.  I also enjoy learning about quitmaking in my family and others during the days before I was born
  1.  I remember sitting with Nanny by the kitchen stove as we made my first quilt.
  2. My family and I arrived home from a trip to find my quilting business featured in Yankee Magazine.
  3. I enjoyed interviewing quiltmakers and writing about them for quilting magazines.
  4. It’s inspiring to see my daughter involed in the world of fabric art and designing works of art for competition and shows.
  5. My granddaughter, too, has begun to follow the family tradition and is making a Civil War inspired quilt for a school project.
  6. Our family has evolved into the Trails End Quilters, the name of the farm where my grandmother lived.
  7. Trying new techniques, fabrics and embellishments makes me realize the changes that have occurred in the world of quilts and fabric art.
  8. I think of the quilting bees of days ago and write about them for various publications.
  9. Snuggling under a quilt on a chill winter night reminds me of childhood on the farm in the Hudson River Valley of NYS.
  10. What else but quilting connects so many generations of artisans and countries around the world?
  11. I plan to write books surrounding my Trails End quilting heritage in addition to my first, The Magic of Patchwork.
  12. Mixed media art has evolved from the inspiration of quilters.
  13. My mom was excited when I agreed to make quilts for her country store during the Bicentennial years of 1975-76.

Do you have any random thoughts to add about your quilting life and memories?
