Tick Tock Tuesday/A Big Picture View

mountains.jpgA few months ago my husband and I were having a discussion with a friend of ours. He was asking us if we have a big-picture view of a business my husband was starting. He then went on to explain what he meant and how having a big-picture view of life can change your success drastically. He also gave us some examples of people he knew that only look at what is right in front of them instead of taking a step back and looking at the entire picture of their situation or their lives in general.

I walked away from that conversation realizing how right he was and how I sometimes just do what I can to make it from one day to the next.

Do you have a big-picture view of your life? Or do you just try to survive the day from one minute to the next hoping that you accomplish something?

Here’s a good description I found of what having a big-picture view of life looks like:

A big-picture view is your overriding vision, your belief, simply put, of the meaning of what your life is all about, of what you want it to be. Your big-picture view keeps you on track, providing the context and motivation for all your decisions about how you spend your time.”

I love that quote. I love the idea of having a big-picture view of my life.

The most successful people in this world are the ones who live their life and go about their day choosing to have a big-picture view. They are the ones who continue to go to the gym because they know that staying healthy will help them to achieve their goals. They are the ones who make a list of things that need to get done and they either do it themselves or outsource it to somebody who can do it better and faster. They are the ones who are able to look chaos in the straight in the eye and say “You will not deter me from my main goal!”

Are the tasks you are doing every day helping you to achieve your main goals, your big-picture? Maybe you don’t even know what your big-picture is.

Just sit back and think about it for a minute. Is your big-picture to retire at 50 and travel with your spouse? Is is to raise healthy, independent, motivated and driven kids? Is it to turn your one man/woman business into a million dollar company with satisfied, hard-working employees? Maybe it’s all three!

Whatever it is, write it down and then write down the steps you need to take to get there. Break it down into yearly, monthly and daily tasks.

Train yourself to be an excellent time manager. Not just any ol’ time manager though. A time manager who realizes the reality of life’s hiccups and unbalances, but presses forward anyway.

I love the phrase “Live life on purpose!” Having a big-picture view of your life and knowing what you need to do to get there, will help you to live everyday on purpose.

So, for this Tick Tock Tuesday write down 2 of your big-picture views for your life and what all it’s going to take for you to get there. Write down what some of the obstacles there may be and what you are going to do to get passed those and not let them stop you dead in your tracks.

I truly believe that if you can wrap your brain around this big-picture idea, then you will start to feel in more control of your time. You will achieve your goals and at the end of the day, you will have a sense of accomplishment. Success won’t just be this thing out there that you can’t quite grab onto. It will actually become your reality. Now that sounds pretty darn good to me! :)
