Tidy Tuesday – Get the Shed into Shape

The shed. It can be a beacon of organization, shining in a world of chaos. It can be…but it usually isn’t. It usually is more like a giant junk drawer. I didn’t even go into my shed because I couldn’t find anything in the piles that were in it. Broken furniture that needed to be mended, hand-me-downs from my grandma’s attic that I was going to sort through some day, old garden tools in need of sharpening…You name it and it was there. So, I decided that it was time for Tidy Tuesday in the shed.

To organize your shed, get several large tarps and place them in the yard. If it isn’t windy, you can start pulling things out of the shed and placing them on the tarps. If it is windy, chase the tarps down one by one, put them back in place and secure them with bricks or heavy stones. I had tarps for the following piles: keep/belongs in the shed, keep/belongs elsewhere, throw away, give away and get someone to fix or else.
Once the shed is empty, add some shelving and wall racks. This way, you can place things from the keep pile back in the shed in a tidy fashion. Make sure you decide what goes in each part of the shed before you start putting it away. It is really nice to have all the garden equipment in one spot.
Now, all you need to do is haul the items onto the remaining tarps to the dump, thrift store, or repairmen. Isn’t your organized shed a thing of beauty?
