Tip of the Day #22

logo designDoes laundry never seem to be done? Does it seem to take over your life at times? I have a family of 5 and we have a lot of laundry. I have some friends who have even more children and what about the Duggar family that just had their 17th child? Whew!

There are a number of ways you can keep up with laundry. You can do one load every day and stay on top of it that way. You can assign one day that you do towels and linens and 3 other days that you do clothes. Whichever way you choose make sure you have a schedule of some sort. Before too long, you’ll be doing laundry without even thinking about it. It’ll also help eliminate those, “Mom, I don’t have any white socks” school mornings. :)

My kids always nominate me for the Mean Mom of the Year Award, but I make my kids do their own laundry. They are 13 and 9 and my youngest started doing his at the age of 7 with a little help from his sister. The fold, hang up their clothes, and they both help with the towels. This certainly helps me with the laundry AND with the Mother of the Year Awards!

    (I HATE laundry!)

Family of five here too! I do laundry on Tuesdays and Fridays, and one of our rotating kids chores is “laundry helper.” They gather up all the clothes from the kids’ rooms and bring it to the laundry room for me, and then when everything’s done they help me put it away. I can’t wait until I can teach them how to iron! :D

Great ideas ladies. Thanks! We have told our kids that when they turn 12 that it’s time to learn how to do laundry. That’s what my sister-in-laws have done, so I’m following suit. They do have to put away their own clothes though. I’ll be sure and let them know they’ve got it easy. ;)

Heather, I can’t believe you get away with laundry twice a week! I have one less person in my family and I feel like I can’t keep up.

I try to do a load every day of random clothes, plus a load a week of bed linens and towels. If I slack off and miss a day I try to double up the next day.

We have one of those Whirlpool Duet sets that you can cram like 1000 square feet of clothes into, and we average about two loads per laundry day :D

Nice Heather. I’ll have to get me one of those someday. I have heard they’re wonderful!
