Tips for Beginning Quilters

“How do I get started in quiltmaking?” beginners often wonder. Here are a few ideas:

*Talk with other quilters, either at quilt shows, a quilt shop, on Internet groups.

*Note the types of quilts you like and would like to make.

*Browse through quilting magazines and books for ideas, patterns, and instructions.

*Find simple patterns in magazines and on Internet sites.

*Check out quilting web sites; enter “quilting”, “quilts” and “patchwork” in search engines.

*Enroll in a beginners class; these often are offered at quilt shops, at quilt shows, through community education programs, as well as senior centers.

*Select projects you can finish rather quickly so you don’t become discouraged. The joy of accomplishment will encourage you to go on to more quilting projects.

*Join the world of quilts and quiltmaking.

*Have fun!
