Tips for Marriage

From About.com comes a post including tips for marriage. The issues addressed in the article include:

* Lack of respect and kindness for one another
* Lack of time with each other
* Lack of sexual desire for one another
* Lack of sharing responsibilities
* Lack of having agreed upon financial goals

I know that at some point in our marriage, we’ve had to address every single one of these issues. And I have no doubt that issues that have been “resolved” for now will continue to arise as changes, challenges, and growth occur. I know that having agreed upon financial goals really changed our marriage in a big way. Sitting down and figuring out how we spend our financial resources really brought us together. We were able to put money to the things that we both feel most passionate about, and work toward other goals together. It doesn’t mean that it’s not hard or that money isn’t a stress in our marriage, but it helps to know that we’re on the same team here.

I think the one we’re most working on right now is the time spent together. With 3 little kids, it becomes so easy to get drained by the end of the day and to just veg in front of the TV or computer and enjoy the lack of constant little voices! So, we’re trying to be a bit more organized with our time and build in together time. Even if it’s just snuggling down in bed with a few episodes of 24 on DVD. (Yeah, I know, that’s still TV. But that show’s addictive, you know!)

Speaking of which, I believe my prince awaits me. :P

Which of these have you most had to work on in your marriage? Which are you avoiding right now for the work that it will take to fix it?
