Today Is Hoagie Day

May 5, 2009 by Linette Gerlach

Today, May 5th is National Hoagie Day. Charley’s invited me to try one of their grilled hoagies on them. Of course I couldn’t refuse, especially since I’m a fan of almost anything from Charley’s!

A hoagie is also known as a sub or submarine sandwich, a hero, or a po’ boy (poor boy). Hoagies are definitely popular at our house, and all over America because you can put almost anything on it, and they’re still delicious. Sounds like a good reason to celebrate to me!

When we were growing up in Queens, they called them Heroes – or sometimes we heard subs. Then we moved to South Jersey and they had Hoagies – we had to ask what they were. They’re all good.
