Took the Family to the Zoo on 1 Ticket

On Valentine’s Day we were driving home from college and saw the sign Kansas City Zoo. Now I’ve been eyeing this place for over a year now but wasn’t quite sure where it was and hubby wasn’t sure if it would look as run down as the rest of the area. But when he said look it up I had already done it, I wasn’t sure if he was serious or not but why take the chance.

Prices weren’t bad either, it was a SALE. All tickets were only $5 for Valentine’s Day. Wow, you can’t beat that. We went straight there before the site changed due to some error or something. When we got there the total was $25, the price of just one ticket normally.

We are open!
Today, Zoo admission will be $5 for all guests.
Some animals could be off display due to the weather;  they have access to their indoor behind the scenes areas. Africa is closed for construction of new viewing decks and an air-conditioned viewing area at lions — opening in 2009!

As it states, not everything was open, not to mention the park needed a good cleaning. The water for the animals was gunky and green, broke my heart to see them bathing in it. The sea lions were sunbathing and the peacocks were hiding in the sun, avoiding the chill in the air. The tigers (there were two) paced back and forth in a small cage. My favorite though was watching the squirrel monkeys run throughout their cage and up and down their tree. One even jumped up against the window and showed me his little nut he was eating. It was definitely a lot of fun, but the conditions were a bit sad. I’m hoping it was just a temporary thing, but not sure. The chimpanzee was the hardest part for me as he was so lonely and all by himself.

What did you do for Valentine’s Day? Oh and as you can see it is $5 again today so maybe you can drive on by and visit.
