Do you have a young teen in your home? How many have a little girl that would love to dress like a stripper?

Okay, maybe not a stripper but she’s been eyeballing that tiny maid skirt at Walmart for a month now hoping that she’ll somehow convince you all the other little girls her age are going to be dresssing like that. I have a little girl myself that would love to dress as if she’s 16, but she also has two parents that would never allow it.
Many parents shrug their shoulders on Halloween, however with the recent abduction/murders on little girls I think more parents should worry. Just picture how many pedofiles will be looking out their bedroom windows hoping to catch a glimpse of a little girl or even little boy for that matter. Why dress our daughters up in costumes like they have out there that show off almost all of their body?
AOL came out today with a list of inappropriate Halloween Costumes for teens. Over the weekend Billy Ray Cyrus was even criticized for the costume his younger daughter, Noah wore to a costume party. How old should we allow our daughters to dress on Halloween? Should there be a limit or anything goes?
1. Mary Had a Little Lamb- Girl in what looks like a maid outfit that cuts to above her knees. She wears a bonnet and holds a lamb and a staff in the other hand.
2. Alice in Wonderland- This one once again looks like a french maid outfit only it is blue with the white trim. The girl wears a big black bow at the top of her head, white tights and black heels.
3. Cheshire Cat- This has a girl wearing fluffy boots (hairy) that are pink, a pink skirt that cuts once again way above the knee, arm warmers, a pink top, ears and a mouth mask for the cat. I must say it isn’t as bad as some of these others but it does remind me of a little girl wearing pajamas.
4. Fallen Angel- This would be the perfect gothic look, but not on a 12 year old or younger. This one has the beaten black wings, criss cross stockings, black halo, large black boots and once again the maid outfit but with shredded black on top. The look is topped off with black lipstick, eyeshadow, etc and a choker.
5. Punk Rock Fairy- Pink dress with a black lace up the front, black leather boots that go almost up to the knees, black wings and black and white stripped arm warmers. This at least goes past her knees.
My own list:
6. Sassy Vampire Costumes- This is the one that Miley Cyrus’ little sister, Noah Cyrus, wore to a Halloween Bash this past week. I’m just going to say there are some costumes a little girl should not wear and if she does it really needs to have some added on to the bottom, if this little girl sat down everyone would see things they shouldn’t. I’m surprised her daddy let her outside in it.
7. Jazzy Baby Teen Costume- This one is marked (size) down to a 5-7 year old. It is the red flapper outfit and even comes with the red/black boa and hair piece.
8. Sexy Dorothy- Yes you remember the innocent Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, well it looks very much like she should’ve stayed home and never left the house.
9. Supergirl Sexy Teen web Costume- I kid you not this costume looks just like something supergirl would’ve worn, only meant for your teen to wear. Now if she were going to a part at the Playboy mansion this might be okay, but not going trick-or-treating. This comes with the halter top, cape, short red skirt, red boots.

10. Teen pirate Queen Costume- This little pirate is all decked out in black but the skirt seems to be a bit of a mesh material. This outfit looks as if it was meant for role playing in the bedroom, not for a child to wear outdoors. This costume comes with the pirate hat, black corset, blouse, skirt and of course the chocker.
Thankfully I’m not the only one that feels like this, there are plenty of articles complaining about how our teen and tween girls are being targeted to wear mini outfits that were or should’ve been only for adults. Momlogic wrote a piece called “Sexy Halloween Costumes Scare Me” and I can’t blame her, it does me too. I mean are we telling these kids it is okay as long as you get a treat for dressing up like this? What is your child/tween/teen dressing up as this year?

I think the original list is a little misleading. It’s not the idea for the costume that’s inappropriate, it’s the execution. There’s nothing wrong with a Mary Had A Little Lamb or Vampire costume in general.
But somewhere along the line, a costume company thought that all female Halloween costumes should be akin to stripper costumes. I looked through a costume catalog recently and couldn’t find one costume that I would be caught outside the walls of my house in.
Personally, I think the same commonsense rules for everyday wear should apply to Halloween as well. You wouldn’t let your daughter out of the house dressed like a slut for any other day of the year, why should Halloween be any different?
Yeh the pageant type look worries me.
I agree, the first list can be misleading. I couldn’t see a problem with an Alice in Wonderland costume, unless the length of the dress is inappropriate. I think many girls will choose to dress as Alice in Wonderland this year because of the remake of the movie that came out recently.
Honestly, if your daughter is 12 years old, she isn’t exactly a teen, so she should stick to the princess outfits like the other 12 year olds. I also don’t see a problem with any of the costumes. The Super Girl outfit has more fabric than what the actual supergirl might wear. The Pirate outfit has a longer skirt and doesn’t show any of the thigh. You need to settle down. Those costumes are not inappropriate at all. Maybe you just think that because you have a dirty mind. The outfits you SHOULD worry about are the ones with five inch long skirts and a bra top and seven inch heels.
