Top 10 worst toys of 2007

World Against Toys Causing Harm, or WATCH, has published their 2007 list of the top 10 worst toys. Frankly I’m a little surprised that some of the toys made it on to shelves in the first place, like the Rubber Band Shooter. (We just used our hands when I was a kid.) Things like Jack Sparrow’s Spinning Dagger and Spiderman 3 New Goblin Sword were also on the list for risk of “impact injuries.”

Other mentions include a Dora the Explorer lamp that is a burn hazard to the many kids who mistake it for a doll, and B’Loonies Party pack. I found the B’Loonies particularly troublesome.

Young children are encouraged to “CREATE FUN B’LOONIE SHAPES!” by squeezing out a ball of plastic from one of the enclosed squeeze-tubes, and to “stick [it] on the end of the blowpipe.” The gooey concoction contains chemicals such as “poly vinyl acetate”, “ethyl acetate”, and “plastic fortifiers”. Flammable chemicals and related chemical fumes should not be part of a child’s toy, much less one intended to be used in or near a child’s mouth and eyes.

It’s worth checking out the full list to make sure none of these offenders are in your house this holiday season.

Some of those toys look cool. I think we’ve really become way too protective of our kids. Let them have fun, just supervise and teach them how to play responsibly.
