Top Chef Season 2: Winner Spoiled

Well, if you haven’t heard the news yet…read on….but their are no spoilers here.
Since, Part 1 of the Top Chef Season Finale was predictable…the two guys who don’t get along are competing to the end…the producers had to think of something to generate some great publicity for a stale, predictable formula show. So, where do they go to generate quick and successful publicity…the Internet, of course.
The winner of Top Chef Season 2 has been released “accidentally” to the public. Supposedly some techno savvy crazed Top Chef fan plotted and gained access to the Food & Wine server and discovered the cover story of the next winner then proceeded to post it and 15 minutes went by before Food & Wine took it down…& again no…you will not see it here.
Food & Wine says that it hasn’t been spoiled because there were two articles written and after the winner is announced the correct one will be posted. So, they wrote two articles regarding the winner of a show that they knew the outcome weeks ago just in case there was a surprise ending they didn’t know about???…uh-huh.
Now, I know that I am a cynic…but am I really supposed to believe their version of the story. The publicity is great. There are articles and blogs all over and the Internet is a-buzz. Heck, I have even fallen into the trap.
My prediction is that the ratings will be the best they ever had but fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice…what a shame.
Sadly, I really liked the Part 1 Finale episode. It finally focused on the food. The drama, unfortunately, was still there, but was not the focus. You actually got to learn more about the chefs and their food philosophy.
If you want to hear about who of our finalists has quit their job, has a myspace page overtly hinting to their win and learn more about the thrilling conclusion of tonight’s episode before it airs, go here.
If you want to wait stay tuned to Top Chef Season 2 tonight on Bravo. Check your local listings.
Sadly, we know human nature. 90% of the viewing audience is going to read on AND tune-in tonight just in case. How I wish that human nature was not so predictable.

The “whoops, it got leaked out on the Internet” thing was done for the first Survivor too. In the end it turned out the producers had set it up and the winner the leak pointed to was false.
