Top Pet-friendly Colleges

The university I attended absolutely didn’t allow pets in dorm rooms. One time, my roommates and I sheltered a stray cat for a few days anyway. The sneaking around was fun. However, I think it’s sad that so many college students have to leave behind their pets when going off to school.

It’s true that not all college students want the continued responsibility of caring for a pet during their time at school. That’s fine, but other students can handle the responsibility and should be given the chance. After all, pets do wonders for our mental and physical health. College comes with lot of stress, so having a friendly pet around can do a student some good.

Petside.com recently released its list of the Top 10 Pet-Friendly Colleges. Considerations for making the list included  types of pets allowed in campus housing, the number of years the college has allowed pets, and deposits or weight/breed restrictions.

At the head of the pet-friendly college list is Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida. They offer four pet-welcoming air-conditioned dorm “clusters.” Cats and dogs are allowed, provided that they weigh less than 40 pounds. The school also welcomes snakes and fish.
