Tracking Device Made Available for Cognitive Disorder Mental Health Patients

While watching my local news this morning, I found out that my home county has just started integrating a “tracking device” for people with cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer’s and autism. The device is designed to help family, friends, and law enforcement located mental health patients should they be abducted or wander from home.

I’m assuming it is some kind of GPS-based device. For some reason, my local news station – though it found the news worthy enough to report more than once this morning – didn’t find it worthy of including on their website. Otherwise, I would link.

My county is one of only seven in West Virginia using this special tracking device.

The part of the device that actually detects where the lost individual has wandered off to looks like something out of a low-budget Sci-Fi movie, but the apparatus the individual wears on his or her wrist is small and unobtrusive.

Because my local news station didn’t include this article on their website, I, unfortunately, don’t have any more information of it – such as a name.
