My opinion of Starbucks has gone up a notch on the hearty meter. I sent an email enquiring about trans fats content in their pastries and cakes less than an hour ago and already have a response.
Dear Dr Lei
Thank you for taking the time to contact Starbucks Coffee Company regarding the nutritional details of our current product range. The information that you requested is as follows:-
Our un-packaged fresh food that does contain trans fats are as follows:
o Pain au Raisin
o Marshmallow Twizzle
o Raisin Scone
o Very Berry Scone
o Apple and Cinnamon Muffin
o Blueberry MuffinOur packaged sandwiches and biscuits each contain a break-down of all ingredients on their individual packets.
It is expected that by the end of April 2007 we will only be serving products that are free from trans fats.
We appreciate you contacting us and look forward to welcoming you back to your local Starbucks soon.
Yours sincerely

Good news but that doesn’t mean we’re free too eat as much trans-fat free goodies as we want. Just because something doesn’t have trans fats doesn’t mean it doesn’t still have calories, other saturated fats, and sugar. All contribute in some way to heart disease.
