Ragbag Bags: Bag Rags Re-Bagged

The picture above and the content for this weekend’s post come from and article called Ragbag Bags: Bag Rags Re-bagged (I love the title–I soooo need to find a way to make one like that for a post on this blog–just you wait) by Dominic Muren at Treehugger.com.

Apparently, the folks at Ragbag Bags pay the poorer people around more for the bags than they can otherwise get, and I am all for helping out people who dip into dumpsters because they have to (rather than because they like to)! But they cut them up, lay the different colors alongside one another and then laminate them into large sheets of material. They then cut and stitch the newly formed material into purses–so they are even slightly waterproof, except at the seams.

I think this is awesome! Not exactly something I can do at home…well, not the same way. I suppose you might try using contact paper or packing tape, but the contact paper might not stick well enough and the packing tape would show the lines because it is so narrow. I suppose if you used some sort of cover for the ends of the contact-paper-laminated material…

Any other ideas for making this technique available for home creators like us?
