Tuesday Musings…

Touching base today, doing some computer housekeeping, organizing files and such. I have tons of news articles and tidbits, but not are usable for a pain blog, so I file them away in case someone else can use them.
It’s been a good couple of weeks with managing the physical pain; my joints in my fingers have been mostly quite cooperative – this is good. The itching on my left shoulder has virtually disappeared with those three acupuncture sessions. I go back on Thursday after a two-week break but I think that this particular problem is now history. Hurray! I am now a believer in acupuncture. Actually, I went in there believing it would work, so I’m pleased to find out I was right.
The itch may come back, but that’s ok, because now I know how to deal with it.
Someone asked me the other day if I would discuss mental or psychological pain in this blog. I guess I could, but Alicia over at Mental Notes does a good job of that, so I’m not sure if I’ll venture into that territory unless it is related to physical pain.
I’d like to make this blog more of a community, but I’m at a loss as to how. Should I focus more on one particular type of pain so that we get regular visitors with that specific issue? Do I dedicate each day of the week to something in particular, like Monday’s Company’s calling? Do I wander all over the place as I am now? I’m not sure what is best. What do you think? How would you like to see this blog? Where to you see it going?
One person told me it’s not personal enough, another person told me to stop talking about myself – I don’t know – what do the readers want?
Talk to me folks – let me know what you would like to see here and I’ll see what I can do for you.

In my opinion, I don’t think focusing on one particular type of pain would make this blog more of a community. The reason being, even though all of us have some similar pains throughout life (headaches, muscle aches, etc) we are all diverse and unique and we all have not only different kinds of pains (chronic, arthritis, osteoporosis, etc) but we have different levels of those pains.
I like coming to this blog because the pains I experience have been spoken about and great links have been provided. Even if I don’t have the particular pain you’ve talked about, I can relate to others that may currently be experiencing that pain. Or keep myself educated just in case I may get that pain. But I don’t think I want to read about the same pain over and over. I want to hear all about the different pains, and how to manage or treat them, so focusing on one particular pain may deter me from visiting as often as I do.
Dedicating particular pains each day of the week might be good, but again, if I know that for example Monday’s are “Migraine Monday” and I don’t experience migraines, I may not visit on Mondays. Yes I could read about migraine pain to relate with others that experience them, but in my circle of friends no one I know gets migraines, so I may not visit the site on Mondays.
For me what works is how you “wander all over the place”. Why? Because I don’t know what “today’s” blog may be about so I visit the site to check it out. It’s like an unexpected surprise just waiting to be opened. There’s some sort of excitement wondering what the topic of that days blog is. And if I find it is a pain that I don’t relate to, chances are I will read it anyway because I’m already at the site and who knows, I could learn something at the same time.
Again, this is just my opinion.
Whatever method you choose, I say: keep up the good work!
Karen, thank you so much for taking the time to write out your thoughts. I appreciate reading how you think about the blog and your reasoning.
You’ve given me food for thought and that is exactly what I wanted!
