Turn Old Light Bulbs into Ornaments

Umbra Fisk of Ask Umbra fame over at Grist Magazine fielded a query yesterday (linked to here) in regards to what one should do with their old holiday lights if they’ve been good little boys and girls and replaced them with the much more energy efficient LED versions. Umbra had a couple of ideas, one of which unfortunately was to throw them out.
I was in a quandry similar to this recently when I came across a box of old yet still working incandesent bulbs left over from when I replaced most of my household lights with compact fluorescents. I’ve never liked throwing bulbs in the garbage in the first place, and to throw out working ones seems blasphemous to a frugal soul like myself.
Serendipitously, Lloyd from Treehugger.com also did a post yesterday, but this one was on old light bulbs that have been festively painted to transform them into tree ornaments that a company in Brooklyn, NY is selling.
3R Living is the purveyor of these cooly re-purposed objects. They come in various shapes and sizes and the colours are funky and a little crazy. Here’s the link to the product page for a look. Even if you’re not interested in buying, they’re still very cool as a craft project idea and as a solution to what to do with a box of still working (or not working) incandesents.
