Twins Accidentally Marry

If you haven’t heard this story yet, it really is fascinating… and not in a Maury Povich kind of way. From an article at The Independent:
Twins separated at birth and adopted into different families married each other without realising that they were related, Lord Alton has revealed. The pair, whose identity has been kept secret, met as adults and married after feeling what the peer described as “an irresistible attraction”.
When the couple discovered the truth about their incestuous relationship, they were granted an annulment by the courts, which ruled that their marriage had never actually existed. Their plight sparked widespread debate over the rights of children to know the identity of their birth parents.
I know! It sounds like a soap opera plot, but it isn’t. Fortunately for us, I’m pretty darn sure Kerri and I aren’t siblings separated at birth. If, in fact we are, we’re the most disparate set of twins since Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. I can’t wait to see what Law & Order does with this once the writer’s strike ends.

Here are a few thoughts that came to mind when I heard of this. Didn’t they become suspicious when they shared not only the the same birthday, but the same year as well? Didn’t their parents tell them they were adopted? If they knew they were adopted certainly the question of birthday should have waved plenty of red flags and should have sent them for blood tests. All this being said, if for some reason things did not register with them or there was unknown deception from the parents, these two are certainly in a great deal of emotional pain from the tragic loss of a spouse, the pain of an unintentional incestuous relationship, and the loss of being able to ever have a sibling relationship in the future. Prayers are certainly needed for everyone concerned.
I can’t help feeling sorry for them. They must have gone from very happy to “oh my …”. I can’t imagine that.
I wonder what was going through their heads about the sex they most likely had after they found out? I also wonder if(outside the public eye) they ended up saying screw it we love each other in a way more then siblings, who cares what everyone thinks, and continued their relationship?
