Uncertainty

When faced with bad news, or potential bad news~ or maybe just uncertain outcomes; how do you begin to process it, so you are able to deal with the situation properly.
I am looking for comments here, so if there is something that you do that works, please let me know.

I gather information. It comforts me, and always leads to new ideas and solutions that I wouldn’t have come up with on my own. Google is good.
Sylvia,
good suggestion. And as soon as I have some idea what I am dealing this – I will be spending a lot of time with Google.
I agree Google is good…what did we ever do before Google came on the scene.
Well, if you are in so much uncertainty that you don’t even know what to google for, then I recommend looking at cat videos on YouTube. Start with cat-bathing. It will keep you busy until you get more definite news.
Of course I have an opinion here, but don’t have time to post it right now. I just wanted to say–Cat Videos on YouTube! What an excellent idea! Thanks again you gals, for making me lol,
Sylvia – you tube….what a great way to lose myself in some nonsense. add some ben & jerry’s ice cream – and nothing can bother me today.
thanks for such a good suggestion (am going to have to work my way up to cat bathing).
Sherril-I look forward to reading your suggestions
This may also be useful.
I think the hardest part is rearranging my storyline and rules for life – that feeling that the rug is pulled from under me and nothing makes sense anymore. If I know in advance things are about to go up the creek, I now try and remove all the rules in advance: there’s no expectations of what I will do or where I will be next week, next month, next year; I try and disconnect my sense of self from my actions, my appearence, my feelings. Sitting and breathing and noticing my surroundings just as they are. Because really, the only thing we ever had was the present moment – and that won’t change until we’re dead.
Not that I achieve any of that, mind you – but it does help to try. And in those moments of utter failure, You Tube and ice cream are a great way to go! I also throw in my favourite books, sitting in nature, journal writing, and a good cry fest.
I hope it turns out better than you expect.
I discuss it with my dog (see picture here: http://theiciexperience.blogspot.com/2007/07/pet-therapy.html). I mean, I really get down on the floor and get comfortable and tell him about it. He’s too big to get on my lap.
I take a bubble bath with good smelling & good for the skin stuff and meditate on the situation.
Shopping is always good for getting my mind off of stuff. Shopping with no money = good consignment store, Salvation Army, Goodwill. I did this just last week and by the time I was all shopped out, I had come to an idea that will save my hundreds of $. And I only spent $12 at the Goodwill.
Writing it down helps me to sort things out in my own mind. No censorship allowed.
Jenna,
presence is a really good idea. I try to achieve it, whenever I can.
This time, its a little out of my grasp….and now I am just trying not to think too much.
Your suggestions are great!
One thing about the ice cream….don’t overdo it. I woke up with an ice cream hangover this morning….an it was awful!
Sherril,
what an adorable puppy!
you are very lucky to have such a great confidant.
I like your suggestions they are very girly!
The writing one is especially good. Since there is nothing to blog about (at this time anyway, since I have no news), journaling might be a good option.
Thanks!
