Uncommon cures for the common cold

ksl.com has asked their readers in the community comment board to post alternative cures to the common cold.

Here are some interesting posts about a cure, or shall I say treatment -

Zicam works. Readers swear the zinc nasal spray works wonders for them.

The power of placebo.

  • Cold is a virus. Any cure can only comfort you from the symptoms. Your amazing body will cure the cold for you. So grab some soup. turn on the tele, and let it do its thing. – Underdog
  • Cold viruses are simple strands of dna that mutate quite quickly. That is why there will never be a cure for the common cold. However, remaining in good health can help your body handle the symptoms better and a healthy immune system can more quickly create the anti-bodies to handle these bothersome little critters. The fact that an immuno-suppressed individual can die from cold viruses suggests it is always important to take care of yourself. So I’ve got my cheetos and merlot, now if I can just find the remote. – Obi wan liberati

A hot bath. As hot as you can take it, as long as you can soak. Someone else said to take a bath everyday for ten days.

Hot tea, Airborned and Emergen.C

10 days? ARe you kidding? I have never been sick for more than 7. That’s doing nothing. The real cure, a bunch of Emergen C..5 packets, 5 Airbornes, and 3 cups of green tea. 2 days, tops!! – Istenya B.

Acupuncture. Ahh… hmm..

I have a bottle of Cold-fx in my medicine cabinet right now that boosts your immune system the way the fizz tablets do, but it’s easier for me to take since it is in pill form. Honestly, I don’t believe there is any legitimate cure, but it’s helpful to take supplements that help prevent you from getting a cold in the first place. I’ve had a lot of sucess with immune system boosting supps.

  2. Grace says:

hey Sneezy – Coldfx, is that a supplement?

  3. Sneezy says:

Yup, Cold-fx is a supplement. It is the best selling cold remedy in Canada but has only just been introduced to the U.S. market. I believe the active ingredient is a ginseng derivative. Highly and personally recommended if you are into natural health supplements.

  4. Bocker says:

There is new evidence that experiencing a cold helps activate the bodies immune system to clear out all kinds of junk…there is even suggestions that one factor of the rise in cancer over the last few years is due to people avoiding colds too successfully…the immune system never runs its full course, and little problems that could be cleared out naturally have the ability to grow and grow till they are a big problem!
Colds can be dangerous for the elderly and the very young, and could act as a doorway for other less healthy diseases, but with that in mind, don’t treat or prevent your cold too much…a good hard cold (though not pleasant) can be a good way to clean your body out!
