Unique Wallpaper Ideas

I was umm…researching. Yes, that’s it. Researching ideas. And I happened to come across a great wall treatment idea. Book pages. I don’t know how common cheap books are near you, but we have a lot of library book sales and thrift store shelves lined with used books. This means there is a lot of raw material to work with. (I know. Tearing up a book curdles your soul. But some books deserve to be torn up. Look for them and you won’t feel so bad. A text book from 1987 or a children’s story so badly written that it makes grown ups cry would be better off prettying up your walls!)
Can’t tear up books? That’s okay. What about collecting road maps and other paper memorabilia when you are on vacation and using these mementos as wallpaper? The result will be really unique and have a very special meaning for you and your family.
For a really wacky wall treatment, check out your pantry. Macaroni, toaster pastries, cereal and granola bars all come packaged in lightweight cardboard containers that could transform a boring little nook in the playroom into an eye popping focal point. Stick the kids’ kitchen set in the nook and it will even kind of make sense!
Have you ever wallpapered your walls with something that isn’t traditional paper?

I’ve never done it but every so often a photograph in a decorating magazine or book tempts me. I’ve seen rooms papered in maps, in magazine pages, and here in Massachusetts we even have a house *constructed* of newspaper, not just papered with it. Sometimes I wish I could throw caution to the wind and take on a room or two as a creative project – resale be damned!
