Using Buttons for Your Quilting

Buttons add color and interest as embellishments to your quilts. They’re also interesting to collect and research. I’ve seen quilt hangings almost completely covered with buttons and others with buttons as occasional accents. Then there are others in all stages between.
I discovered some interesting quilts with buttons at Button Mad.com (called to my attention by Chloe at Tangled Thread) They make delightful ceramic buttons at Button Mad which coordinate well with quilt, collage and other fabric art projects.

I absolutely love buttons, especially little ones made from shell. I stitch them in lines and patterns onto all kinds of projects. I’ve just uploaded an entry to my blog, showing pics of what I’ve been doing with buttons:

Thanks for visiting, Noreen, and leaving your comment about buttons…as well as giving me your link for your button project. I’ve always loved buttons, too, and find their history equally fascinating. My daughter and I had accumulated so many, to get the ones she wanted for fabric art projects, that we put some in our yard sales. Now I see so many ideas for them, that I may have to start collecting more buttons again! They also are great for keeping youngsters occupied (when they’re past the “putting everything in their mouths” stage). You’ve just given me an idea for another blog post…and for my Country Kitchen newspaper column.
