Vegetable shopping in Italy

I spent a lot of time in Italy drooling over gorgeous displays of fresh fruits and veggies at the many green markets we encountered. Even though I can find pretty good produce at home in Germany, it’s nothing compared to the sumptuous offerings at even the most modest of Italian farm stands. The tomatoes, artichokes, green peas, fresh garlic, delicate lettuces… yum!

It’s a real treat for me to get to prepare my own meals in Italy after a day of food shopping. When you start with such amazing, fresh, local ingredients, it takes very little effort to make an extraordinary meal. I highly recommend it to anyone who gets the chance.

Well, you’ve just given me another reason to go to Italy.

  2. One of my favorite things about living in Italy as well; I just posted some market photos on my Flickr page of our weekly affair in the piazza :)

Wow, that produce looks so fresh. I bet you had a great time. I’ve always wanted to go to Italy. Glad you had a great trip.

  4. It seems no mater what counrty I visit, the fresh produce in the open markets looks so much better than what we have in a typical grocery store.
